Atratec

 Physical Description:

900 grams per litre atrazine in the form of a water dispersible granule.

Chemical Group:

Triazine

Uses:

Atratec can be used as a pre or post-emergence herbicide for the selective control of some annual grasses and most broadleaf weeds in maize or sweetcorn.  Atratec is also used post-emergence in Linseed and established Lucerne over 12 months of age to control annual grasses such as poa and most broadleaf weed species.  For the best results ensure that the soil surface is moist and clod free.

Benefits:

Atratec is the most cost effective herbicide for use in maize and sweetcorn crops.  It can be used either pre or post crop emergence providing a large window of application.  Atratec combines well with most other specific maize and sweetcorn herbicides.

Application:

Atratec is compatible with most other commonly used herbicides and insecticides.  Atratec is mixed with Maize Guard and other herbicides in maize and sweetcorn crops, Pasture Guard MCPA in Linseed crops and Parable (Paraquat) in established Lucerne crops.  As the weed spectrum is large and rates do vary for specific crops it can be applied pre or post emergence of the crop, always refer to the label.

Mode of Action:

Atratec is absorbed through leaves and roots to provide knockdown and residual action.  It inhibits photosynthesis with symptoms of yellowing and then death.

Environmental Fate:

Atratec has a soil half life of 35 - 50 days depending on soil temperatures and rainfall conditions.   Beware of following crop and cultivation restrictions.

Rainfall:

Light rainfall after application may benefit results, although significant rainfall within 3 hours of treatment may reduce contact activity when used in a post - emergence situation.

Additional Information:

Atratec does have a period of residual action in the soil and these residues can adversely affect crops such as tomatoes, cucurbits, brassica's, beetroot, lettuce and beans.  Do not plant crops other than maize or sweetcorn unless the area has been ploughed and thoroughly cross cultivated.  An indicator crop such radish can be sown to see if residues remain.

CAUTION:

Avoid use over or near desirable plants or in areas where there roots may extend, or in locations where the chemical may be washed or moved by rainfall or irrigation to their roots.  Do not apply to drains ditches and irrigation channels unless they are dry and will not carry water for at least 2 months after application.  In the case of any doubt call an Agrochemical Specialist on 0800 100 123.
