Pasture Guard 2,4-D

Physical Description:

Contains 520g/litre of 2,4-D as the ethylhexyl ester in the form of an emulsifiable concentrate.

Chemical Group:

Phenoxy acetic.

Uses:

Pasture Guard 2,4-D controls most broadleaf weed species in established pasture, some crops and non cropland areas. It is mainly used during the autumn & winter for the control of most broadleaf weed species but more specifically ragwort, nodding, Scotch and variegated thistles. Quite often used in established pasture to clean out any broadleaf weeds interfering with production. Arable farmers quite often use Pasture Guard 2,4-D during the winter over established white clover seed crops for broadleaf weed control.

Benefits:

Pasture Guard 2,4-D performs more consistently when the soil temperature is declining. ie. late autumn & winter. Pasture Guard 2,4-D has a very wide broadleaf weed spectrum which is ideal for established pasture. Pasture Guard 2,4-D controls ragwort, nodding, Scotch & variegated thistles better than any other chemical in established pasture. It has the ability to check clovers however by using the product when growth is slow and the clovers is moving into dormancy this check can be drastically reduced.

Application:

As the weed spectrum is broad and rates used vary from seedlings to established plants it is always best to refer to the label. It may be tank mixed with most other commonly used herbicides & insecticides.

Withholding Period:

Where susceptible species such as Brassica's & Clovers are to be planted, it is advised not to sow for up to 28 days following application. Even then it is best to sow a small area first to ensure that the residues have dispersed.

Storage & Handling:

Carrier will require a Dangerous Goods license to collect this product.

Additional Information:

Rain within 3 hours of application may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Pasture Guard 2,4-D is taken into the plant through the leaves, stems and a little through the roots. It is then translocated in the plant and accumulates in the growing points where it interferes with cell division & enlargement. Whilst there is no withholding period for Pasture Guard 2,4-D, some poisonous plants will become more palatable after treatment such as ragwort. Ideally stock should not be grazed until the poisonous plants have died down.
