Physical Description:
Contains 500g/litre simazine in the form of a suspension concentrate.
Chemical Group:
Triazine
Uses:
Simaflo is a pre - emergence herbicide for selective weed control in established lucerne, orchards, vineyards, forestry and certain horticultural crops. Simaflo controls a wide range of germinating weed species but has no effect on established weeds. Quite often used for forestry site preparation in conjunction with Glyphosate 360 to kill existing vegetation and provide long term residual control on grasses and other weeds, allowing the tree seedling once planted to grow and establish unhindered by competition. Simaflo is used for long term weed control in industrial and waste area sites. Simaflo is one of the few products registered for use around trees and vines in berry fruit, citrus, hops, kiwifruit, pipfruit and vineyards for longer term weed control. Simaflo is often mixed with Parable for use in established lucerne.
Benefits:
Where possible and if the weed species are known it is always best to control them with products such as Simaflo before they get established or even germinate. Simaflo is a cost effective option for this purpose. Simaflo is compatible with most knockdown herbicides such as Glyphosate 360 and Parable and can be used to control weeds still yet to germinate.
Application:
As the weed spectrum is immense and rates do vary according to specific situations it is always best to refer to the label. Simaflo is compatible with most commonly used herbicides such as Glyphosate 360 & Parable. When mixing with Parable always add the Simaflo to a partly filled spray tank whilst agitating, then add in the Parable. Keep agitating whilst spraying.
Mode of Action:
Simaflo has very little effect on existing vegetation and is absorbed through through the roots of seedling weeds as they germinate. It inhibits photosynthesis with symptoms of yellowing and then death. Whilst being a residual herbicide it is has very low water solubility and therefore does not leech as much and does not cause as much leachate damage as other similar triazine products.
Environmental Fate:
Simaflo has a soil half life of 28 - 102 days depending on soil temperatures and rainfall conditions.
CAUTION: Avoid use over or near desirable plants or in areas where there roots may extend, or in locations where the chemical may be washed or moved by rainfall or irrigation to their roots.
In the case of a customer enquiring regarding residues it is best to refer them to Agrochemical Specialist.
Additional Information:
Considering Simaflo's mode of action, rain is required to move the chemical into the root zone of germinating seedling weeds. For the best results Simaflo should be applied to moist soils and should be followed by 10 - 15 mm of rainfall 7 - 10 days following application. Simaflo does have a period of residual action in the soil and these residues can adversely affect crops such as tomatoes, curcubits, brassica's, beetroot, lettuce and beans. Do not plants crops other than recommended unless the area has been ploughed and thoroughly cross cultivated. An indicator crop such as radish can be sown to see if residues remain.
