​AgLime can be compatible with the following under certain circumstances:

Urea, Flexi-N, Ammonium Sulphate Std, CAN, Nitrophoska products, DAP, MAP, Ammonium Nitrate, Potassium Nitrate, Elemental Sulphur (crushed)

Segregation may occur when mixed with product with differences of particle size.

High moisture lime will increase compatibility problems.

AgLime is ground limestone used principally for the correction of soil acidification. Applied at the correct rate for New Zealand soil conditions, lime is a key contributor to optimum soil health. This in turn has a beneficial effect on profitability.

Application rates and advice

The application rate of lime to shift pH is largely determined by soil texture and soil type.

Capital Dressings - The Rule of thumb for capital dressings on all mineral soils: approximately 1 tonne/ha of surface applied lime is required to shift the pH on an average soil by 0.1 unit.

Maintenance Dressings - Maintenance dressings are based around the annual application of lime, designed to neutralise the natural acidifying effect of pasture production and the acidifying effect of N fertilisers. This also gives an annual application of Ca. The application rate will generally be dependent on the intensity of the farming enterprise eg intensive dairy farming approx 500 kg/ha/yr compared to low stocked hill country at 100 kg/ha/yr.

Applications can occur at any time during the year when ground conditions allow.

On dairy farms, November through February is the best time to apply lime. This will allow the large input of calcium to balance with other key nutrients before calving. This will minimise the risk of hypomagnesaemia and hypocalcaemia.

Lime has a fine particle size; therefore care should be taken to avoid drift onto neighbouring properties especially where sensitive crops are being grown Lime may be mixed with most fertilisers.

Setting up can be a problem after mixing and application should be as soon as possible.

Storage and handling

AgLime should always be stored under cover to keep the product dry. Wet lime will be difficult to spread as it bridges in the spreading hopper. When aerial application is to be used extreme care should be taken to ensure that all moisture is excluded to ensure that the lime will flow from the hopper and not bridge. Bridging may result in the an accident in this case if the plane is unable to dump in emergency situations


Limestone rock is naturally occurring in very large volumes around New Zealand. Except for the central North Island, most areas have substantial resources of limestone. At current usage of approximately 5 million tonnes annually for both industrial and agricultural usages, these resources are anticipated to last many thousands of years​.
