Timeframe
Simazine is mainly taken up via the roots, with symptoms of yellowing soon after application, then death.
Plant back withholding

Plant back

Soil half life varies from 27-102 days and soil residues can harm subsequent crops, such as tomatoes, cucurbits, lettuce, beetroot and dwarf beans. Do not plant crops other than those recommended for treatment without first sowing an indicator plant such as radishes.  Plough thoroughly and cross cultivate the area before sowing crops.

Stock

There is no grazing withholding period on the label.  Good agricultural practice would suggest not grazing treated plants for 10-14 days after application, to give the product time to be taken up into the weeds.  Beware of toxic plants that may become more palatable to stock.

Barriers to effectiveness

Rainfall

As Simaflo is root absorbed by germinating seedling weeds, rain is needed to move the chemical into the soil.

Where possible and if the weed species are known it is always best to control them with products such as Simaflo before they get established or even germinate. Simaflo is a cost effective option for this purpose.

Application rates and usage

Application

As the weed spectrum is immense and rates do vary according to specific situations it is always best to refer to the label.

Mode of action

Simaflo has very little effect on existing vegetation and is absorbed through through the roots of seedling weeds as they germinate. It inhibits photosynthesis with symptoms of yellowing and then death. Whilst being a residual herbicide it is has very low water solubility and therefore does not leech as much and does not cause as much leachate damage as other similar triazine products.
