| Withholding period |
Stock Withholding Meat withholding Animals producing meat or offal for human consumption must not be sold for slaughter either during treatment or within 10 days of cessation of the last treatment.
If a pregnant cow is treated, and the cow calves within the meat with-holding period of the product with which she has been treated, the calf is eligible for slaughter only when the cow is eligible for slaughter. For example, if a cow was treated with Albendazole™ Cattle (which has a 10 day meat with-holding period) 5 days before she calved (ie the bobby calf is born 5 days into the treatment), then 5 days from the date of birth must elapse before the calf is fit for slaughter for human consumption.
Milk withholding Milk intended for sale for human consumption or manufacture must be discarded during treatment and for 10 days following the last treatment.

| Barriers to effectiveness |
Barriers Resistance can develop to any anthelmintic and there are many reported cases of BZ-resistance in cattle parasites in NZ. Check the effectiveness of anthelmintics at least annually (but preferably 3-4 times/year) by faecal egg counting 10 days after drenching, and preferably immediately pre-drenching as well. Follow current recommended parasite management practices to reduce the potential for resistance to develop.
