| Timeframe |
How Long For new pasture, application timing varies across the country depending on time of sowing, soil temperature and size of weeds. Aim to apply when weeds are small and actively growing, once clovers have a minimum of 2 trifoliate leaves and there is at least 50% ground cover. For Californian thistle control, applications of Pasture Guard Nurture should be made at 20% flowering, just after the hard bud stage. Plants should also be healthy and actively growing at time of application.
|
| Plant back withholding |
Plant Withholding Where susceptible species such as Brassica's & Clovers are to be planted, it is advised not to sow for up to 28 days following application.
|
| Stock withholding |
Stock Withholding Delay grazing for 10-14 days after application to ensure the chemical has had a chance to start working. Some poisonous plants such as ragwort become sweet and more palatable after spraying and stock should not graze these pastures until the plants have died down.

| Barriers to effectiveness |
Barriers Rainfall:
Rainfall within 12 hours following application may reduce the effectiveness.
Environmental Conditions:
Apply early rather than late when weeds are small, less than 5cm diameter, and soil temperatures are above 10ºC for better long term control.

Pasture Guard Nurture is clover safe making it suitable for very young pastures containing seedling clovers. It is very effective on seedling thistles and a wide range of broadleaf weeds in new pasture, allowing the pasture to establish in the paddock. It controls many invasive species and prevents establishment of many weeds.
Application
At all times you should refer to the Pasture Guard Nurture label. Rates vary from weed species and whether the plant is a seedling or established plant. Pasture Guard Nurture can be tank mixed with most commonly used herbicides and insecticides.
Mode of action
Pasture Guard Nurture contains MCPB with a spike of MCPA. MCPB is taken up by the leaves and translocated to the growing points. Plants that are susceptible to MCPB convert MCPB to MCPA, which accumulates in the growing points and disrupts cell division and growth. Plants such as clover and peas do not make this conversion, so are unaffected by MCPB. The amount of MCPA in the formulation is not sufficient to cause significant damage to susceptible plants at label rates.

Shelf life
When stored appropriately this product should show no significant degradation for two years from the date of manufacture. Please contact your Ravensdown Account Manager, or our Customer Centre on 0800 100 123, for further information about the use of any product that is older than this.
Mixing and compatibility
Mix required quantity in spray tank partly filled with water and maintain agitation through filling and spraying. Pasture Guard Nurture is compatible with most commonly used herbicides.
Additional Information
The product is taken in and translocates to the roots and growing points of the plant where in susceptible plants the MCPB is converted to MCPA. Legume plants such as clovers and peas cannot make this conversion and therefore are not susceptible when applied at the correct growth stages. Then the mode of action is the same as for Pasture Guard MCPA 750.
