High-quality magnesium sulphate
Suitable for addition to the drinking water or supplementary feed, or for daily oral drenching
Application
Magnesium sulphate is very soluble in water, so is generally only administered by an oral drench or through the drinking water (via an in-line dispenser, added to the central water supply or added directly to the water trough).
Dose rates are generally 60-80g/cow/day for drenching and 60-100g/cow/day for water medication. It can be added to supplementary feeds, although its unfavourable taste makes magnesium oxide a better choice for feed medication. Magnesium sulphate is soluble in water so is compatible with drench guns, trough dispensers and in-line dispensers.
Capability and precautions
Dose rates over 100-120g/cow/day can cause scouring (diarrhoea).
Storage and handling
Magnesium Sulphate is mildly irritant, so care should be taken to avoid contact with eyes. It tends to absorb moisture from the atmosphere so store in a cool, dry covered facility, and ensure that the bag is closed properly after use.
Shelf life
5 years from date of manufacture.
Mixing
Magnesium Sulphate is not compatible with calcium chloride.
