Stock Withholding Meat withholding Cattle producing meat or offal for human consumption must not be sold for slaughter either during treatment or within 35 days of cessation of the last treatment.
If a pregnant cow is treated, and the cow calves within the meat with-holding period of the product with which she has been treated, the calf is eligible for slaughter only when the cow is eligible for slaughter. For example, if a cow was treated with Abamectin™ Pour On (which has a 35 day meat with-holding period) 30 days before she calved (ie the bobby calf is born 30 days into the treatment), then 5 days from the date of birth must elapse before the calf is fit for slaughter for human consumption.

| Barriers to effectiveness |
Barriers Resistance can develop to any anthelmintic. Check the effectiveness of anthelmintics at least annually (but preferably 3-4 times/year) by faecal egg counting 14 days after treatment, and preferably immediately pre-treatment as well. Follow current recommended parasite management practices to reduce the potential for resistance to develop.
Endectocide-resistance (including abamectin-resistance) in Cooperia spp in cattle is relatively common. This parasite can be a problem in young cattle so generally Abamectin™ Pour On should not be used as the only anthelmintic in cattle up to the age of 12-18 months.
