| Barriers to effectiveness |
Barriers Although drench resistance can develop to any anthelmintic, there has been very little drench resistance reported to abamectin in sheep in NZ. Check the effectiveness of anthelmintics at least annually (but preferably 3-4 times/year) by faecal egg counting 10 days after drenching, and preferably immediately pre-drenching as well. Follow current recommended parasite management practices to reduce the potential for resistance to develop. It is recommended that a drench resistance test be conducted.
