MAP based products are superior on alkaline soils compared to DAP

Ammo-Phos / Hycrop 8-15-15  is suitable for drilling or banding close to seed as there is less risk of seed burning compared to DAP due to virtually no free ammonia being released, which is toxic to seedlings.

Uses

Ammo-Phos / Hycrop 8-15-15 is used for pea and potato crops, as well as other vegetable crops.  It is suitable where an equal amount of phosphate and potassium is required.

Application rates and advice

Sowing rates will vary, according to base soil fertility. For pea crops, about 150kg may be used.  As a pea fertiliser it should also contain 400 grams of sodium molybdate per tonne of fertiliser, to aid nitrogen fixation by the rhizobia bacteria within the pea nodules. For potato crops, rates may range from 250 to 500 kg/ha, depending on base soil fertility, and yield potential.

Application rates are typically 400kg/ha in Mid October.  Actual spreading rates will vary according to farm type, climate, productivity, soil type and crop type. Soil testing and fertiliser plans are available to ensure you use the right product at the correct rate. Call our Customer Centre for information.

As with most solid fertilisers, Ammo-Phos / Hycrop 8-15-15 can be stored over a season as long as it is kept in a cool, dry, well ventilated area.

Ammo-Phos fertilisers contain monoammonium phosphate (MAP), which is manufactured by chemically reacting one molecule of ammonia with one molecule of phosphoric acid. Diammonium phosphate (DAP) is made the same way, except that two molecules of ammonia are reacted with each molecule of phosphoric acid. As MAP has only half as much ammonia in proportion to the phosphate, there is virtually no release of free ammonia, and therefore can be sown closer to seed compared to DAP.

MAP has been found to be superior on alkaline soils, due to (i) its acid nature (compared to DAP, which has a slight alkaline effect) and (ii) the greater volume of soil enriched with phosphorus.
