Chlorpyrifos reassessment by NZ Environmental Protection Authority
The NZ EPA (Environmental Protection Authority) announced on 10 July 2025 the decision to ban the insecticide chlorpyrifos and begin a phase-out.
This means the use of Toppel 500 on farm is prohibited after the disposal deadline of 8 July 2026. Farmers and growers have until 8 July 2026 to stop using and dispose of unused product in line with EPA Notice of Direction.
Ravensdown has decided to stop selling Toppel 500 after 31 December 2025. Most Toppel 500 is applied in spring.

Chlorpyrifos reassessment outcomes
The NZ EPA (Environmental Protection Authority) announced on 10 July 2025 the outcome of its reassessment of the organophosphate insecticide chlorpyrifos. This affects the use of Toppel 500 from 8 July 2025.
Following the reassessment, the EPA decision-making committee has revoked approvals for all chlorpyrifos-containing substances, with phase-out periods varying by product. A Notice of Direction has been issued prohibiting use and requiring disposal of these substances from specifed dates.

Application
Unless otherwise indicated, rates suggested are for high volume spraying to the point of run off. For concentrate spraying, adjust dilution rates accordingly. For broadcast application, use 100-200 litres of water/ ha through ground spray equipment and 50--100 litres / ha in aerial applications. It is best to refer to the product label for more information relating to a specific use.

Storage
- Do not store near heat or flame.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Store in accordance with NZS 8409 Management of Agrichemicals.
- Store in original container tightly closed in a locked, dry, cool, well ventilated area away from sources of heat and ignition, foodstuffs, fertilizers and seeds
- Please refer to the product label for product handling and storage details.
Shelf Life
When stored appropriately this product should show no significant degradation for two years from the date of manufacture. Please contact your Ravensdown Account Manager, or the Customer Centre on 0800 100 123 for further information about the use of any product that is older than this. -
Mixing
Partly fill the spray tank. Add the required amount of Toppel® 500 and start agitation. Complete filling the spray tank and maintain agitation until spraying is complete.
Toppel® 500 is compatible with most commonly used fungicides, insecticides & herbicides, but do not use with strongly alkaline materials such as Lime Sulphur or Bordeaux Mixtures.
