Boost pasture growth this spring

The benefits of Superphosphate for your soil this spring

Spring can be the ideal time to apply maintenance Superphosphate. After a wet winter, many soils are low in sulphur due to leaching, as sulphur is relatively mobile in soil. This deficiency can limit pasture growth.

Grow beyond this season

Paddocks with high soil fertility show stronger growth in spring, autumn and winter, better matching animal demand.

The example below highlights how superphosphate affects pasture growth throughout the season. As you can see, there is significantly more growth in spring, autumn, and winter in the high soil fertility (Olsen P >25) farmlet compared to the low soil fertility (Olsen P <10) farmlet. This high fertility pasture growth curve aligns much better with animal demand.

Double your pasture growth

What happens when we apply superphosphate and provide plants with the nutrients they need for growth?

The example below shows that superphosphate fertiliser treatments resulted in an average growth of 11-12 t/ha, over a 31-year period, which is double that of the no fertiliser control at 5 t DM/ha. That’s double the pasture growth, just by fixing P and S levels, meaning more high-quality pasture for your stock.

More earthworms
Superphosphate boosts pasture growth, and increases dead litter and dung return, which means more food for the earthworms.

Old, but gold

Superphosphate has been a staple of New Zealand farming for years. This is because while we’ve seen technology advance, the fundamental principles of soil chemistry and plant physiology have remained the same. Superphosphate remains the most cost effective source of P and S for plants, making it an enduring choice for New Zealand farmers.

Applying superphosphate to paddocks consistently results in much higher clover percentages compared to no fertiliser treatments. At the Winchmore long-term trial, the superphosphate treatments had approximately 25% clover in the sward, while the control averaged below 10% clover.

Superphosphate

Made in New Zealand, for New Zealand soil. Superphosphate contains plant available phosphorus and sulphur for optimum pasture growth. Ideal for your spring capital and maintenance applications. Mixes well with most other products so you can get the nutrients your soil needs.

Sulphur Super 30

Made by adding molten elemental sulphur to Superphosphate, resulting in fine particulars of elemental sulphur within each granule. This oxidises in soil over 12-24 months, giving you both quick acting Sulphate-S and medium term release in Elemental-S. Perfect for use when you require more S than P.

Serpentine Super

Commonly known as drilling super, this supplies your pasture with readily available Phosphate, Sulphur and a small amount of magnesium. An excellent option for forage cropping and vegetable production, when applied at the recommended rates it will not cause germination injury.
