At their recent conference held in Ashburton, South Island Dairy Event (SIDE) ran a workshop on strategies to work with the N-190 cap. With the implementation of nitrogen rules from the Essential Freshwater Policy Package edging closer, one of the most important things a dairy farmer can do to comply is keep reliable records for all solid and liquid N fertiliser applications on their properties (excluding effluent applications). Kicking this record keeping into gear will also be beneficial when creating a Farm Environment Plan – which all farmers may be expected to have in place by 2025.
